Being prepared for the unique challenges that winter brings is the key to conquering them. Here at Providence Autos, we're ready to help you prepare your car for winter so that you can enjoy a safer drive as the weather changes and the road conditions get worse. Here are a few tips from our service pros:
Battery Check
Do you know why so many drivers wake up to cars that won't start on frigid winter mornings? It's usually the battery. Cold weather saps your battery's strength, making it more difficult to work in winter. If your battery is already weak, the chances are good that it won't make it through a chilly winter night. A battery test at our dealership will determine whether your battery needs to be replaced before winter really sets in.
Brakes
Keeping your brakes in good shape is critical year-round, but especially so in winter. Winter weather is already out to make stopping more difficult, so it pays to make sure that your brakes are as strong as they can be with professional brake service.
Winter Tires
What's the secret behind winter tires? It's actually twofold! Winter tires are made of a softer rubber that makes them more flexible in the cold, which makes gaining traction easier for them than it is for other tires when temperatures drop. They also have specialized tread patterns designed to help them deal with snow and slush.
Filters
Your car has lots of filters, including an engine air filter, a cabin air filter, and an oil filter. We can check all of them and replace them as needed with genuine Mopar parts.
Wipers and Washer Fluid
You'll likely spend more time trying to clear your windshield in winter than you will during other times of the year. Replacing worn wiper blades and topping off your washer fluid helps to ensure that you're prepared.
Winter Emergency Kit
While this isn't a service, it's still something the pros at our service center recommend. You should always have a winter emergency kit in your car that is stocked with items to help you either get yourself out of trouble or help you stay warm and safe while you wait for help to arrive. Warm clothes, a blanket, a flashlight, cat litter or sand, an ice scraper, and a shovel are some of the items we recommend always having with you.
